Mies van der Rohe Award for European Architecture

was created in 1987 by the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Fundació Mies van der Rohe-Barcelona, which was the institution entrusted with the organisation of the Award, from wich six editions have been held.

The year 2001 gives way to the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award, by winning the competition for its organization.

The awarded project, as well as those short listed for each edition, are chosen by a Jury composed of architects, critics and architectural historians, from proposals submitted by Experts in the field of architecture.

The prize consists of the sum of 50.000 Ecus and a sculpture designed by Xavier Corberó which evokes the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion of Barcelona .

Since its inception the results of the Jury's decisions have been published in a book which documents the award winning project and the finalists for each biennial prize edition.
